tutoring servicesTutoring services rely on their ability to both attract new students and to retain old ones. The ability to do both of these things simultaneously is a challenge but it can be done. The following tips will help you to achieve both of these things.

Tips for Attracting New Students for Your Tutoring Services

There are several ways that you can attract new students for your tutoring services. The first method is to expand your advertising campaign. This can be done by setting up an online profile, by buying ad space in your local newspaper and by putting up flyers at local schools and learning centers.

The second method for attracting new students is to expand the types of services that you offer. For example, you can expand the ages of students that you offer your services to, you can start offering in-home tutoring services or online tutoring services or you can start offering different levels of tutoring in various subjects.

The third method for attracting new students is to offer enticements. For example, you can set up a free resource page for your students. These resources can include things like study guides, vocabulary sets, interactive games and other references.

Also consider trend marketing. This strategy requires that you keep track of what skills are in demand right now and which skills will be in demand in the future. To identify these in-demand skills you can read peer reviewed business journals, educational journals and even find skill trends promoted in newspapers. As “must have” skills emerge, such as blogging or Internet use, you need to be the first to develop and promote a tutoring package for that emerging skill.

Finally, entice your existing and past clients to promote your business by offering referral bonuses. These bonuses can be free tutoring sessions, discounts on future tutoring or even a small cash bonus. The price of these referral bonuses are tax deductable as they are a business expense, so do not get hung up on the fact that you have to spend money on these bonuses. After all you will make up the cost in new tutoring services that are sold.

    Tips for Retaining Tutoring Students

After you attract a new student the second step is to do what it takes to keep them booking tutoring sessions. There are numerous ways to do this. This first option is to offer them quality tutoring services. Know your topics and know how to break the topic down to teach them effectively to your students.

The second option is to offer your services without being condescending. Be friendly and non-judgmental. Listen to your students’ concerns and answer all of their questions without making your student feel as if their question was stupid. Be upbeat and optimistic about the working with the student and helping them to set and meet academic goals. Your personality needs to shine when you are interacting with your clients.

The third option is to give your repeat students perks. For example, you can offer your current students discounts on tutoring session for different subjects, you can offer your current students discounts or free access to special sections of your website or you can give your students gifts. The gifts can be anything from educational items like notebooks and references to promotional items like calendars and planners with your company logo imprinted on them.
